Wheeler Clinic Case Study
Nonprofit distributes Deterra Pouches to help prevent medication misuse
Drug overdoses deaths spiked in Connecticut during the COVID-19 pandemic, and local nonprofit Wheeler Clinic needed a way to keep prevention resources accessible to the community when in-person events and drop sites were unavailable.
Wheeler Clinic partnered with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to use grant funding for the distribution of thousands of Deterra® Pouches online and at COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites. The pouches allow residents to safely deactivate and dispose of unwanted drugs at home to help prevent misuse and keep unused medications from falling into the wrong hands.
