DEA holds Spring 2023 Drug Take Back Day

ANCHORAGE (Your Alaska Link) – The Drug Enforcement Agency took action this weekend — to try and combat drug overdoses across the nation and here in Alaska.

The DEA is helping Alaskans properly get rid of old used prescription medications. This year’s annual Drug Take Back Day kicked off in full swing with the help of some businesses like grocery store chain Fred Meyer.

“The people, the opportunity to bring any unwanted, unneeded prescription medications. It’s free, anonymous and it’s a safe way to dispose of these unneeded medications. One of the leading causes of deaths from adults 18 to 45 was drug overdoses and drug poisonings. Over 107,000 Americans died last year from drug overdoses and drug poisonings,” David Zahn, Assistant Special Agent in Charge with the DEA, said.
