Local officials in Troup County discuss resources for National Prescription Take Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, it is designed by the Drug Enforcement Administration and it is an opportunity for people to give back prescription drugs they may no longer be using. District 4 Public Health in La Grange, GA, is encouraging the disposal of prescription drugs by giving out the Deterra Drug Deactivation System.

Medication Take Back event set for Oct. 30 in Riverhead

Efficiently and safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medication on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverhead Highway Yard. Riverhead, New York, residents are encouraged to dispose of their unused medications as well as household chemicals and electronics at this event hosted by Town of Riverhead’s S.T.O.P. program. For participants that dispose of medications, they can receive a free Deterra kit.

Somerset County Participating in National Drug Take Back Day

This year, Salisbury, Maryland’s Take Back Day will be taking place on Saturday, October 23. For individuals unable to take unused prescription medication to a Drug Take Back Box, the Somerset County Health Department will be offering Deterra Drug Deactivation and Disposal System Pouches to any community member who would like one.

Drive-thru and drop off; Huntington residents dispose of unwanted drugs

For those needing to dispose of any unwanted medications, drug takeback stations were set up all over West Virginia Saturday. The National Drug Takeback Day was held in partnership with the Huntington Police Department, Cabell County Sheriff’s Department, and the Marshall University School of Pharmacy. In addition to the drop-off, they also offered “take-home” Deterra disposal pouches.

October is also Prescription Medication Awareness Month, so along with Beckley Police and representatives from the Attorney General’s office, members of West Virginia’s Raleigh County Prevention Coalition came out to hand out Deterra bags and other tools and resources to raise awareness about the misuse of prescription drugs.
