Deterra Pouches Help Georgia teen Prevent Drug Misuse
Drug overdoses spiked in Georgia during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many metro Atlanta counties saw fentanyl-involved deaths double or triple.
High school junior Vinayak Menon, Youth Sector Leader for the Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council, connected with national nonprofit SAFE Project to increase access to prevention resources like at-home drug deactivation pouches. To date, Menon has distributed enough pouches to get rid of nearly 330,000 pills in his community. His goal? Provide enough pouches to safely destroy up to 1 million unwanted pills.
