Pottsboro library offering drug deactivation kits
POTTSBORO, Texas (KTEN) — The Pottsboro Area Library is encouraging patrons to dispose of unneeded or expired prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines safely.
“Opioid abuse is not about any particular kind of person; it can impact anyone,” said library director Dianna Connery.
The library is offering free kits to safely dispose of drugs around the house. The Deterra drug deactivation and disposal system is a way to permanently and irreversibly destroy medications.
“We have 30 years of unused pain killers sitting in peoples’ medicine chests,” said Jason Sundby, president of Verde Tech, which makes Deterra. “Our company has a mission to really try to turn the tide on this opioid crisis.”
