CADCA Endorses Deterra
CADCA Letter of Endorsement of Deterra Products
November 16, 2020
The Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) is pleased to endorse the Deterra System for drug deactivation and disposal. For more than 30 years, CADCA has been committed to preventing substance use and misuse. The Deterra System for drug deactivation and disposal is the ONLY product that CADCA has endorsed in our 30-year history. CADCA firmly believes that safely destroying and discarding unused harmful medications is seminal in our primary-prevention strategy and based on our review of products on the market, Deterra products have a proven track record and are backed by independent scientific studies. For this reason, we are pleased to give Deterra our endorsement.
Our mission is to strengthen the capacity of community coalitions to create and maintain safe, healthy and drug-free communities globally. This is accomplished by providing technical assistance and training, public policy advocacy, media strategies and marketing programs, training, and special events. We believe that prevention of substance use and misuse before it starts is the most effective and cost-efficient way to reduce substance abuse and its associated costs.
Individuals in key sectors including schools, law enforcement, youth, parents, healthcare, media, clergy, and every US state and territory and over 30 countries around the world rely on us to provide evidence-based strategies and technical assistance on how to prevent substance use and misuse. One key challenge in prevention is diversion, retrieval, and subsequent abuse. We believe cost-effective and safe methods of deactivating and disposing of unused medications is critical to solving this challenge.
CADCA trusts Deterra products over other products in the market to deactivate and dispose of unused medications because the Deterra products’ effectiveness is proven by multiple independent scientific studies. The wealth of research on the Deterra products’ effectiveness is easily accessible online at https://deterrasvstem.com/research/, and this research (which includes peer-reviewed publications and presentations) gives us confidence in the Deterra products’ capabilities. We are aware of other drug deactivation and disposal products that represent certain drug deactivation capacities. We have chosen to endorse Deterra products because, based upon our review of the available science, we are satisfied that only Deterra products accomplish what they say they can do. Based on our extensive experience, the extent to which products actually deactivate medications as represented, and the cost for providing that deactivation are the most important considerations in deciding between the products in the marketplace.
Therefore, we are enthusiastic and pleased to endorse Deterra products for unused drug deactivation and disposal because they are effective and backed by science. We encourage all who share in our mission of preventing substance use and misuse to choose Deterra.
