Another View: Disposal bags another tool in drug fight

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is paying for Deterra bags to be distributed to workers injured on the job for leftover medication.

Injured workers often are prescribed painkillers, and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is enacting what appears to be a unique policy to try to ensure any leftover drugs don’t get into the wrong hands.

The Ohio agency that deals with workers injured on the job has started paying for disposal bags for opioid prescription pills not consumed by the patient. Believed to be the first state workers’ compensation agency to start such a program, the effort is to try to stop substance abuse before it starts.
